Arabian Chutzpah

Wednesday, 14th October 2009

No matter what you think of global warming, I think this qualifies as chutzpah:

Saudi Arabia is trying to enlist other oil-producing countries to support a provocative idea: if wealthy countries reduce their oil consumption to combat global warming, they should pay compensation to oil producers.
Good luck with that.

Remember that OPEC adjusts the oil price according to demand. If we start using less oil, expect OPEC to stick the price up so that the overall costs stays where it is.

Green technology and renewables are the Arabs' worst nightmare. What comes out of the middle east other than oil and violence? If we stop paying for oil then the other export is not exactly a big revenue earner.

Good of you to not just point out Alex's witticism, but hammer it home with an emoticon. Were you afraid people would miss what you alone had caught? Are you new in these parts?

Verity has her claws out today.

The sooner we're a hydrogen economy, the better.

The sooner we're a hydrogen economy, the better.

That's why we need to price the carbon out of our hydrocarbons.
