Jim Devine

Sunday, 7th February 2010

It would be easy to highlight this Channel Four News interview with disgraced Livingston MP Jim Devine and observe that it highlights so much of what is so wrong with the Scottish Labour party. Easy and true. But while it's obvious that the Jimmies are pretty grim, the broader point is that there are clueless fools (and worse!) in all political parties and it's incumbent upon voters to choose the best man or woman for the job, regardless of their party affiliation. That means there are plenty of sitting Tory and Lib Dem MPs you shouldn't vote for either.

Well, yes Alex: agreed, plenty of Tories and LibDems who should be thrown out but won't be, because their seats 'need' an MP of this or that colour. But it seems cruel to pick on Livingston. You really expect them to vote for Tarquin, the Independent anti-sleaze AGW Green GayLib trust-fund candidate who comes originally from Edinburgh but lives in the Seychelles?
After all, he may know FA about footbaw. What use'd he be?
And why does Livingston need a Westminster MP, anyway?

Livingstone should be so lucky: we have a LibDem MP whose lifelong ambition is to make darts an Olympic sport.

But of course darts should be an Olympic sport. Give me one good reason why pistol shooting is more athletic than darts?

"So that was a lie, then?"

"Yeah, it was allowed."

Says it all.
