All will be quiet here this week. I'm heading offline and, more importantly, to Ireland for a week of cricket. Six games in six days across three provinces is a punishing, even optimistic schedule. Then again, it can't go any worse than it did on Saturday when my two overs were walloped for 29 runs. Anyway, see y'all next Tuesday.

July 25th, 2010 10:50pm Report this commentIf you're playing Malahide, I'll come along and watch.
Perhaps if you're dismissed early we can discuss the disconnect between the ruling elite and the ruled, and whether Muri is a chucker.
Have a great trip.

July 25th, 2010 10:57pm Report this commentMurali's no more than a chucker than flintoff is when he bowls a bouncer.
Well done Pakistan, they're going to have our batsmen for breakfast this series

July 26th, 2010 12:15am Report this commentAustin - Alas, we're not playing in Dublin. Athlone, Galway, Kildare and Mt Juliet in Kilkenny is the itinerary.
As for Murali: a great bowler but not as great as Warne (if we must rank these things).
Andy: Agreed on Pakistan. Young Amir is going to be a hell of a bowler when he grows up. England may order extra-flat pitches, however...

July 26th, 2010 8:38am Report this commentRonnie, did you not hear what the Irish did to the West Indies in the 60's?
Alex, my liver weeps for yours.
Murali's better than Warne because Warne had McGrath and didn't have to bowl at Australia

July 26th, 2010 2:52pm Report this commentThe point about Warne & McGrath - and Warne not having to bowl at Ponting & Co - is a good one. On the other hand McGrath (and Gillespie) had often taken 5 or 6 wickets before Warne was given the ball.

July 26th, 2010 3:10pm Report this commentMurali never had to bowl at Jayasuriya et al on a Galle dust-bowl, or one in Madras or Dhaka for that matter.

July 27th, 2010 12:01pm Report this commentBut Warne offered much more than "just" his bowling - a more than capable batsman and the best captain Australia never had. I suspect he livened up the dressing room a bit too

At the batting crease, for instance.

August 3rd, 2010 3:29pm Report this commentBut when you deduct the wickets taken against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, whom many people believe should not have Test status, another picture emerges.
Murali's 800,less 162,becomes 638,while Warne's 708 is reduced by only 17 to become 691 when wickets against the minnows are removed.
A difference in the Aussie's favour of 53.
(Apologies if my addition is not 100 % correct)
