Country music ain't always about cowboys and outlaws; there's the distaff side of strong and righteous ladies too. Notably, in this instance, Loretta Lynn and her warning that You Ain't Woman Enough (To Take My Man)...

When she died, Johnny Cash turned his face to the wall and was dead within around eight or 10 days. My favourite song of theirs together is "Jackson".

Ahhh, but I was a fan before she married the man in black. Was a fan of her mother (et al) before her, too. Also have Jimmy Rogers 78s from 1938, Mississippi River Blues; Frankie & Johnny; etc. etc. I was able to able to play Mississipi River Blues on my Dad's harmonica when I was 5 years old.
Rogers influenced then all, including, Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings, Elvis, Bob Dillon, Cash and many more.
Woody Guthrie was a commie and named after a very bad man - Woodrow Wilson; an original 'Progressive'.
Loretta is fine, though you must admit she used June's dentist and Dolly does it much better. I was just pulling Jockie's leg. His Saturday country slot is the best thing he does on his blog. Makes up for his politics, which are also Woodrow Wilsonish. ;-)

Guilty on all counts; but then Bob obviously couldn't spell Zimmerman either.

September 19th, 2010 12:50pm Report this commentSarah Palin with a guitar. Frighteningly limited and banal.
The man who introduced the piece - with his quiff, his shirt and his slightly vicious smile - was more interesting than either the singer or the song.
