Winning with Governor Moonbeam

Thursday, 8th September 2011

Surprise: there's some good news coming out of California! Governor Jerry Brown, enjoying his second tour in office, has taken to slapping down the kind of mollyocddling absurdities much favoured by that state's woeful state legislature. Better still than a flourished veto pen are Governor Moonbeam's reasons for despising the stuff sent to him by the legislature. To wit:

If only more politicians in this country - in this government too - could be as sensible as this. Not every human problem deserves a law. Quite so.

.....and that's why I voted for him, rather than the ridiculous Reich frau plutocrat Meg Whitman. Pity the rest of California's state pols aren't like him.

"I am concerned about the seemingly inexorable transfer to authority from parents to state".

Put this up on billboards, everywhere. We have recently learned that the state can't cope with the responsibility.

Rather bizarrely, Alex Salmond and his new (and hopefully improved) Transport Minister were making a similar sounding argument with regards Irn Bru today, in the face of what they see as unnecessary legislation from Europe.

Funny how such arguments can be made when politically convenient, when your modus operandi is usually to legislate first and think later. A phrase involving the words 'pot', 'kettle' and 'black' springs to mind. As do some other phrases, but let's not go there.

I look forward to Mr Salmond stepping in when those faceless bureaucrats from Brussels try to stop the Sunday Post printing any more Broons cartoons for fear of offending any minorities.
