The AP has the fun scoop that Joe Biden was having a root canal done when he received the call from Barack Obama to be his running mate. In other VP news, the McCain campaign is out with an ad asking why Obama didn’t pick Hillary and Mike Allen reports that McCain is interested in Colin Powell as a running mate. Must admit, that I would be mighty surprised if Powell did end up on McCain’s ticket but following on from the mention of General Petraeus a few days ago it suggests that what McCain really wants is a solid national security pick. PS Do check out Stephen Hayes’s piece on the Weekly Standard campaign’s blog explaining why if the Democrats spend their convention trying to tie McCain to Bush, Lieberman’s stock will rise.
