One for the Presidential Debate junkies

Friday, 26th September 2008

It's still doubtful whether Presidential Debate junkies will get their fix tonight.  But here's something to tide them over: footage of the very first televised Presidential Debate - between Kennedy and Nixon - which took place 48 years ago today.  It lacks the two candidates' opening and closing statements (for a full transcript, click here), but there's still plenty to savour - from Nixon glowering to the Mad Men stylings.  Classic politics, and classic TV:

Seems like McCain is scared and hoping that the news cycles will be more in his favour when the debate takes place. He's also hoping that a rearranged fixture will mean the canncellation of the VP debate. Surely even the people who where hailing her as the 'real deal' a few weeks zgo, realise that she is a massive liability now and a danger if she were ever to get to the White House. Under normal circumstances I would want a Republican to win, but I can't support the McCain/Palin cynical ticket.

I'm staggered by some tories blind devotion to the McCain/Palin ticket.
Hasn't the last seven years been bad enough..
Take a look at the last Couric / Palin interview... Palin hasn't got the educational standard of the worst Labour back bencher and she could be sitting in the chair...

Given the downward spiral the world is in because of the Neocon agenda do you really want to see more but worse?

CG - Ooooh, the little lefty ticks and fleas don't leave a post unjumped on, do they? More vicious by the day. The roiling little lefty lizards don't leave a page unscuttled across, leaving little lizard droppings in their wake.

Palin is superb. Katy Couric is a vicious, malign leftie and should not be interviewing political candidates because her bias comes hissing down the airwaves. She's a nasty piece of work. So are her producers. They knew they were going to slice and dice that interview to make Palin look off her balance, so Kouric didn't have to ask her questions in any particular order.

They put Couric in a comfortable chair and Palin in an uncomfortable chair. They lit Couric with a soft key and they lit Palin with harsh spotlights.

I like rats and think it is a pity that they look a bit like Katy Couric with dyed blonde hair.

Palin has more chief executive experience than anyone else in this campaign. They don't call her The Barracuda for nothing. She didn't earn her nickname by mistake, you know.

Newsflash: The Presidential debate is on tonight.

Verity - we agree on most things - but surely even you were disappointed by Palins performance? She did not come across as the sharp individual we were seeing a few weeks agso - some of her answers (after 30 odd days of coaching by the campaign managers) were simply inept - it was not a good night for the GOP campaign.....

This is not to down-play the issues you point out - but I hope her performance in the public environment improves pretty dramatically and soon.

As I understand it the nickname comes from her work on the Basketball court - not from her time in executive office....
