The McCain campaign's final week gets off to a bad start

Mike Allen reports that in conversation with him “a top McCain adviser one-ups the priceless “diva” description [of Palin], calling her “a whack job.” Now, this is—to put it mildly—unhelpful. The idea of Palin ‘going rogue’ is catnip to the press and this quote will dominate at least the first news cycle of the day.

The McCain campaign is down in every key battleground state with a week to go. They are going to have to turn in one of the great final week performances in campaign history to turn this round. They cannot afford to lose news cycles to distractions like this. Instead, they need to remind the electorate that the next president will inherit two wars and will probably have to work out how to stop Iran going nuclear in his first term.

Even the GOP biased RCP is giving it to Obama by a country mile.

To give you some idea how bad it's got McCain is forced to buy air in once deep red Montana & is packing up in Minnesota and one poll put Obama within 4 points in McCain's home state Arizona.

To have a chance the way the map looks right now he has to get within touching distance i.e. 2 points in Colorado, Virginia, Pennsylvania at the moment Obama is +6,+7 and +11 respectively

The map is now turning blue everywhere, it's going to be a long night for the wingnuts

Andrew I read about this before but I think it's overblown..

It's all going to be okay, its our turn I just hope Al Franken gets in in Minnesota that will send the wingnuts into such a frenzy of rage.

That about sums up liberal intelligence doesn't it. Al Franken as their poster boy. Personally I hope he does win, nothing would hurt the Democrats more than six years in the Senate with that deranged crook. Be careful what you wish for.

As for rage, nope, just a great big belly laugh at liberal stupidity.

Come Nov 5 your friends in the Wingnutosphere are going to erupt in a frenzy of recrimination and yes rage and I hope that they get to play a key role in the reconstruction of the Republican Party and keep the GOP out of power for a generation

It got off to a bad start from the beginning. In fact, it never started. Now we have to listen to the likes of Melanie Phillips and the mechanics instead. Personally, I prefer McCain and Palin.

Gallup traditional Daily tracking with likely voters has Obama up by only two
Obama's internal polling has him up by only two in Pennsylvania

Cabbie We all have strong opinions and I know I'm going to look like an idiot if McCain wins but hey ho it's all part of the fun of arguing on this site.

I read that internal Pennsylvania polling came from the McCain Camp not Obama

Oh no, not another liberal I'm going to have to be nice too. People are going to suspect I'm a Marxist plant or something.

That story you referenced is actually a different story. The one I'm talking about happened a week or so ago. Details of Obamas internal polling in PA accidently got sent to a radio jock in the state showing that Obama only had a 2 point lead. The campaign tried to say that this was a rogue staffer trying to keep campaign staff keen by deliberately falsifying the poll numbers. However, it coincided roughly with Governor Ed Rendells rather desperate plea for Obama to come back and campaign in Pennsylvania.
