Mistakes, mistakes

If you want to get a grasp of just how drastically the Clintons misjudged the primary process, consider this: The Clinton campaign did not put a ground operation in place in the post Super Tuesday states because they were so confident that it would all be over by then. This misplaced confidence has also allowed Barack Obama to enter into the final stretch with the money and advertising edge going. In the nine days after Super Tuesday he outspent the Clintons on TV by more than $5 million.

Talk about contrasting feelings, on one level the thought and sight of the Clintons squirming is so delicious but on the other is the knowledge that Hillary would almost certainly be the easier foe for McCain. However, the Clintons are nothing if not lucky and I still feel that underneath the gloss and veneer there is a fragility about Obama. Something still lurking in the woodwork and the Clintons will be searching forensically.

Well, we've already had Rezko the Chicago "slumlord," the radioactive spills law (which Hillary cosponsored), and Obama's stated desire, in kindergarten, to be president one day. If Hillary had anything better than that, wouldn't she have trotted it out by now. I am not aware of the phrases "cattle futures" or "Travelgate" passing Obama's lips in this campaign. I hear, though, that Obama has fathered two black children.
