Hillary aides plan her exit strategy

Saturday, 23rd February 2008

The state of the race, and the mood of the press corps, is summed up by this Washington Post story which reveals that Clinton aides are thinking about how she can withdraw gracefully if results don’t go her way on March 4th. The paper report that,

“Inside Clinton’s inner circle on Friday, the feeling was that the Thursday night debate in Austin was unlikely to slow Obama’s momentum from 11 straight primary and caucus victories. Some supporters said they had discussed how to raise with Clinton the subject of withdrawing from the race should she fail to win decisively on March 4. One option was to wait a day or two and then dispatch emissaries to former president Clinton to urge him to make the case.”
Personally, I’d be slightly surprised if it was Bill who urged her to drop out. He has been much more desperate to win than she has, almost as if this is his chance to make up for everything that he has done wrong. It’d also be remiss not to point out that there was much of this kind of talk just before the vote in New Hampshire. It does, though, seem that there are increasing numbers in the Clinton camp who aren’t prepared to turn this into a bare knuckle fight.

Doesn't look quite so graceful this morning, with the Clinton knuckles well and truly bared!

Oh, what joy it is to watch all this. I just hope, though, that they do turn it into a bare knuckle fight. Plus the longer it goes on the more ammo it'll give McCain.

No clue about healthcare, Shrillary? The very idea! Where can Obama possibly have obtained such a notion?
