The Clinton campaign is eager to keep the storm over Obama’s comments about small town Pennsylvanians being bitter and clinging to their faiths and guns alive. At Bill Clinton rallies in North Carolina they’re handing out stickers saying 'I’m not bitter', while Hillary is hitting it hard on the stump.
Both candidates are at a forum tonight where we can expect the issue to come up, the forum will give Obama a chance to try and put them into context for the Monday morning news cycle. But it does appear that these remarks have given Hillary the opening she needed to shore up her working class base and maybe give the super delegates pause about Obama’s electability. Certainly, Hillary is showing her more down to earth side at the moment—knocking back shots of whisky with a beer chaser at a bar in Indiana.
Ultimately, the consequence of all this might be that Hillary triumphs in Pennsylvania by a decent margin and wins Indiana on May 6th while holding Obama close in North Carolina. If this happens, then Hillary will stay in the race until June.
