I am clutching on to the joystick between my legs for dear life. I am about to flip a small, orange aeroplane over and over, mid-air. I’m no pilot. I can’t read a compass. I don’t even drive, never mind fly. Oh, and I’m afraid of heights. Hello? How did I get here?
It started with an email from a company I’d never heard of called Platinum Events. ‘Fancy a day out with the Blades?’ it read. The what? The who? Just as I was about to delete it, something caught my eye — the bit about the Blades being a new aerobatic formation flying team, comprised of ex-Royal Air Force, ex-Red Arrows pilots. The Queen knows who they are — she invited them to fly over Balmoral for her 80th birthday. So, I say yes.
