The art of writing – Christopher Hitchens

David Blackburn

Friday, 16th December 2011

Christopher Hitchens is dead. His reputation as a stylist, polemicist and independent thinker is such that his legacy looks certain to be secure. Here he is talking about the art of writing, and life in general.

I really, really hope that before his death Hitchens repented of his atheism and accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour. If he did not do that then he is bitterly regretting his rebellion against God.

I read 'God Is Not Great'. From what I can remember of it, I think that Hitchens was quite attracted by what he saw as the sun-dappled colour and tolerance of polytheistic culture and society around the turn of the first century AD. Before - as he saw it - the darkness of the monotheisms descended. I also remember that he said something about the literal mind not only failing to understand the ironic mind, but also regarding it as 'dangerous'.

What a load of nonsense about Christopher Hitchen ' discovering' a cruel, punishing.God after his death. That would truly be he'll for a man who was smart and courageous enough to live without the safety net pf repentance for simply being a truly inquisitive, self reflective human. RIP. human
