All eyes in Beijing are on the Communist Party Congress which is ushering the leader, Hu Jintao, in to his second five years in office. While there is no doubt he will get his second term, the crystal ball gazing indicates it may be on considerably less favourable terms than he would have hoped. That will not become clear until the denouement when the names of the members of the top body, the Standing Committee of the Politburo, are announced – probably at the weekend or the beginning of next week.
