It’s not as if you can smoke

I am mystified as to why I am legally allowed to carry one cigarette lighter on board Ryanair and Easyjet flights yet am prevented from travelling with a 120ml bottle of Jo Malone scent in my hand luggage. Can anyone offer a logical explanation?

A cigarette lighter costs around £1.50 in the air side duty free; whilst a bottle of decent scent will set you back anywhere between £50 and £100.

But then they are making money from the latter and not the former aren't they.

The very clear rule is a standard plastic bag of items <100ml each, in total <1000ml.
Simple.
