The wisdom of (cinema) crowds

Monday, 15th December 2008

Ann Althouse trusts her readers so much she allows them to dictate which film she goes to see. It all ended happily this time with "Slumdog Millionaire". I'm definitely with her on the reasons why it's harder and harder to make the trip.  I've had about three satisfactory outings in the past twelve months. Among the masterpieces I wish I hadn't bothered with, "Happy-Go-Lucky" and "No Country For Old Men" linger in the memory, for all the wrong reasons.  To avoid further disappointment, I'm making a special effort to ignore any news reports about the Golden Globes this year. Was there ever a more pointless institution?
