It was at this time that Mae West, after years of retirement, re-emerged to play a role in "Myra Breckinridge". A party was organized in her honour, and the A-list attended. Every star, every major director turned up to pay homage. There was a line, and everyone shuffled along to take their turn in shaking her hand and exchanging a few words. People were astonished at her brilliance, her acute awareness of contemporary movie-making, her judgement, her wisdom. It transpired that she had said exactly the same words to everyone: "Loved your movie, loved your movie."
