Cambridge don Mary Beard mulls over a survey of the family income of students at her seat of learning. Not surprisingly, History of Art is where you find the dosh.
If you don't want to be depressed, avoid Decca Aitkenhead's column devoted to our two-tier university system. (Or should that be three-tier?) I had no idea the drop-out rate is now 22 per cent. Aitkenhad asks if it's ethical to encourage people to run up huge debts to study, say, photography at a struggling former poly if there's no job at the end of it. Oh, and there are student gang fights on the campus too. Perfect.
