A week or so ago, as chance would have it, I posted a clip of Caetano's Eighties version of "Billie Jean". I've always felt he captures the melancholy at the heart of the lyrics. On the night that Jackson died, the Brazilian master paid tribute to him in a concert in Porto Alegre. It's brief, and he muffs one of the lines, but you can sense the emotion in the air.
