A sympathetic view of the Democratic front-runner, from a lengthy campaign profile by the New Yorker's George Packer: In numerous conversations, friends of both Clintons expressed a preference for Hillary, upending the public perception that Bill is the warmer and more likable of the two. He talks; she listens, with a talent for banter that can be disarming and even whimsical... Richard Holbrooke, who served as Clinton’s envoy on Bosnia and as Ambassador to the United Nations, is now a foreign-policy adviser to Hillary Clinton’s campaign. (He is sometimes spoken of as a potential Secretary of State.) He said of Clinton, “I like her because she’s human. She has a vulnerable side...."
Still, having seen John McCain work an audience (..."witty, combative, humble, and blunt...") Packer wonders if Clinton has what it takes to beat him.
PS: If you haven't taken the Electoral Compass test yet, have a go now. I came out closest to Mrs C (and furthest away from Fred Thompson, which was a relief...)
