FoB: Friend of Boris

Wednesday, 30th April 2008

Reporter Andrew Gilligan - self-professed "lefty" and sworn enemy of Ken Livingstone - explains why he wants the Conservatives to win the mayoral race:

"A lot of people say you can't support a Tory because you're a progressive," he says. "Well, actually, in some respects the Tories are more progressive than Labour now. It comes down to this idea of what's progressive... Livingstone is the ally of some of the most reactionary forces in this city. I'm thinking of Ian Blair, I'm thinking of property developers he's in bed with, I'm thinking of City big business."

In another dispatch from the trenches - via Dave Hill, who can't resist a wry chuckle - the MD of the Evening Standard defends his paper's coverage of the contest.
