Would the British have been much better? Thoughts on war and collaboration from Alex Massie, prompted by an exhibition of photographs of Paris under the German Occupation. Anyone who thinks Alex is making excuses for the French might care to take a look at Max Hastings' op-ed from a couple of years ago. ( "We would have done the same under Nazi occupation".) Resistance was a noble cause, no question about it, but one of Hastings' books gives a sobering insight into the cost paid by civilians.
