Bryan Appleyard finds himself stuck in "the worst hotel in the world". Yes, he's back at the Hudson. And, yes, he's right: it's depressing, pseudo-chic and over-priced. I blogged about the place last summer when I reluctantly made a return visit. My abiding memory, apart from the painfully dim lighting and the surly staff, is of waking up in the night with jet-lag and realizing there wasn't a mini-bar in the room. The bed-side brochure told me that instead I could wallow in the luxury of grazing in the concierge's kitchen. That sounded promising. When I got there, I discovered they meant a vending machine near the lift.
