On The Soon to be Mrs. Pollard
11:19amAs Stephen Pollard has been extremely nice and helpful with advice to me on something he knows about (this journalism thing) I thought I'd pass on something which I know about to him. On taking the soon to be Mrs.P to see Atonement (and being mightily unimpressed) he says this:
Early on, Mrs-P-to-be whispered to me: "it's very...beautiful". I wasn't sure if she was being complimentary or pointing out that that is all it was. I found out after about three quarters of an hour that we were on the same wavelength when she said: "It's boring, isn't it?" When I nodded, she asked if I wanted to leave. I asked if she did. "Yes", she replied, as if released from a dreadful burden.
Clearly, I am ignorant of the specifics of Mrs.P to be but on the general subject of getting wives to be to remain wives in fact through the years less so. Stephen, you're going to need to get that divining moods and wavelengths down from 45 minutes to about 45 seconds. 44'15'' is enough time to start a World War, let alone a divorce.
