Mr Murphy can keep saying black is white until he is blue in the face, the Reform Treaty is in substance the Constitutional Treaty, and the manifesto commitment to a referendum should still hold good. One way off the hook for the Government would be for Gordon Brown to call an early general election and put forward a manifesto that did not include a commmitment to a referendum on the Reform Treaty. Might that be an additional reason inclining Gordon Brown in favour of an early election?
