Comments are working again

Peter Hoskin 11:43am

Just to say that the comments facility is now working again. I've been assured that any comments made overnight (when it wasn't working) should still appear - although they may trickle through slowly throughout the day. If you think a comment you made may not have got through, feel free to e-mail me on phoskin @ spectator.co.uk, and I'll see what can be done. Apologies, again, for the earlier problems.

Liz Brown and Oscar, I wonder if you had the same problem that I had.

But first of all, let me make a public apology to Pete Hoskin for my outburst at slow/non appearing posts a couple of nights ago which was out of order in both manner and content.

As I now understand that our comments are transmitted to Pete, or whoever else is monitoring, via e-mail it is at least possible that the problem lay at my end given I have experienced parallel problems with other e-mails recently. My internet server is BT which may perhaps explain everything and may also explain your problems Liz and Oscar if you are also with BT.

In any event there was no excuse and I apologize to Peter.

Liz et al: the techies have assured me again and again that the ones made overnight will appear eventually...

Sounds like the editorial staff at the Spec have no technical background to really understand the machine they are trying to drive.
