Martti Ahtisaari wins the Nobel Peace Prize

Peter Hoskin 1:31pm

The former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize earlier today for his "important efforts, on several continents and over more than three decades, to resolve international conflicts."  He's worked towards resolving disputes in regions including the Balkans, East Timor, Iraq and Northern Ireland.

"Ireland"? Were Charles Moore dead, there'd be a lot of a spinning right now.

Well he may have more to do in the not-too-distant future if the wheels continue to fall off the financial truck........

Good thing he's rewarded for intention and not performance.
I loved his modest little response, weher he suggested he ought to have had the Nobel prize years ago.

Isn't high time someone thought of bringing peace to the Middle East? I mean precisely between Palestine and Israel? Thousands of Palestinians became homeless more than 50 years ago, and now they are under siege and have been so for several months now, Food and medical supplies are running out and no one seems to care! Will Mr. Martti Ahtisaari be willing to help bring peace to the region?
