Not just bad but offensively bad

It beggars belief that anyone – particularly the artist himself — could have thought that a bronze frieze of a commuter falling in front of train driven by the Grim Reaper would be appropriate for St Pancras station. While the banal sculpture of a man and woman embracing, also by Paul Day, is just bad the suicide sculpture is shocking. Now, after complaints from the Samaritans, train drivers and families of people who have killed themselves, the frieze will not be installed.

I'm curious to know if Liz Anderson understands the frieze. I don't find the idea of it aesthetically pleasing for somewhere like St. Pancras, however I at least understand it.

Not because I, or she I suspect, want to see a head on a stick but because too many decisions by public bodies are hidden behind anonymity.
If people are required to put their names to memos, suggestions and policy decisions the quality of decision-making will improve.
There will still be mistakes because people make mistakes, but crass and offensive and decisions will be less frequent if the decision makers are identifiable.

Anyone for videos of plane crashes at Terminal 5? And how about pictures of Zeebrugge at Dover? It's what we need to boost life insurance sales. That'll kick-start the economy.
