Glenrothes will either inflate the Brown bubble or deflate it for good

James Forsyth 3:18pm

Guido has the scoop that Brown has written to Labour MPs telling them that he and Sarah will campaign in Glenrothes ahead of the by-election there “global financial situation permitting”. This is a sign of renewed confidence in the Brown bunker and if Labour does hold the seat after Brown has campaigned there the media will rush to declare that ‘the mighty Gord is back’. It will cement the media narrative that the financial crisis has revived Brown’s premiership and restored his authority.

But if Labour lose to the SNP, who hold the equivalent seat at Holyrood, then it will be the beginning of the bursting of the Brown bubble. The media will not be able to claim that a grateful nation is turning its eye to Gordon when the voters in his own backyard have rejected him in this time of crisis. This time, the SNP really are Cameron’s own Highlanders,  able to put an end to a narrative that favours Brown.

Won't he be breaking another "golden rule" that PM' don't campaign in by-elections, or did I just dream that that is what he said for the previous hopeless(to Zanulab) cases?
Still, who cares, the Dear Leader does what he wants and screw the rest of us. I find his madness utterly terrifying

Some scoop when it's a letter that has gone to every Labour MP and Peer via email.

And this piece is just mumbo jumbo speculation pretending to the news.

How low journalism has sunk.

I thought PMs do not campaign in by-elections?
But..It's becoming very high risk for Brown. Therefore more likely that he show his usual "courage" and doesn't turn up (note the get-out-of-jail clause in the memo). If Labour wins the narrative is that Gord is back, if Labour loses Brown will hope it is drowned out by the US presidential election and he can blame it on "local factors" and "mid-term blues"

So Mel - you're worried Broon may lose?

Me, I think the SNP may lose - lets see how Salmond plays it.

Mr Blake, miaow. "How low journalism has sunk". If you are a New Labourite that's priceless. Campbell, Whelan, Draper and co. operate without scruple as spinmeisters, and you castigate journalism?

What chance of a carefully tailored bribe - sorry, 'new initiative' - being announced a day or so before polling day designed to assist the hard-working families Gordon is so passionate about. He will, of course, tell us that this initiative has been long planned and the timing is entirely coincidental.

Unorthodox or not, employing Mrs Brown to campaign is understandable and evidently is intended to capitalise on the brownie points earned from her appearance as supportive spouse at the party conference. Cue Nick Robinson and sycophantic BBC telling us how she is so empathetic with all those 'hard-working families' of Glenrothes. She's far brighter than the Governor of Alaska, so she'll learn the right responses to provide valuable on-message soundbites. This certainly could win over enough female voters to tip it to Labour . . .

Brown's 'frighten-the-kiddies' obsidian features may well be a welcome Halloween surprise for the voters of Glenrothes but is, I suspect, more likely to lose votes. Sarah's appearance alongside Gordon will only cause onlookers to marvel at the wonderful generosity of women.

Brown may have calculated that the SNP are looking rather foolish, having suggested that Scotland adopt Iceland as a model.
But if so, he's in for a shock, I think. People out there (out here - i.e. outside Westminster) have had it with Brown.

Brown is spinning this crisis into a 'feel good' factor for Glenrothes.

He has just saved the Global economy and all the world leaders are at his feet.

How could you not vote for him?

If Zanulabour win Glenrothes Brown is still probably finished. If they lose it Brown is definitely finished.

I don't think Mr/Ms Blake understands the concept of blogs.Or maybe he/she is just another embittered Zanlabour blowhard letting off bile.

I know, some in the profession are even hailing Brown as some sort of messiah and (albeit gold selling, pension stealing, 10p doubling) economic genius.

Still no doubt we can trace the demise of good journalism to Thatcher and/or a global problem.

Are my eyes playing tricks, or does that photo show Gordon holding a baby to the side, much like how an attractive model on Bruce's Price is Right might demonstrate a blender or an expensive toaster? If that's just an old, bald lady... I apologise...

My perspective from Scotland is that Brown has acheived hero status among the world's leaders and should be supported 'this time'.

People I speak to cannot believe how wonderful he has been and just how much they have underestimated him.

The SNP are starting to make a lot of stupid policy gaffes and are losing support due to this. Also because people want to support their 'local hero' Brown.

Lib Dems, I keep hearing the name on the telly but don't know anyone that supports them

All in all, I think with the constant media praise of Brown, Labour will win Glenrothes.

This man is a robotical politics machine.

He will do whatever is necessary to win power.

He will do whatever is necessary to keep power.

He will 'do' whatever is right.

He will 'say' whatever is right.

He will keep on doing the job.

He will keep on making the right decisions.

Like a machine, he keeps ploughing on. No democratic concepts or principles, just socialist elitism.

Therefore:

CTRL-ALT-DEL has been disabled as it would spoil our great leaders social engineering.

The Lib Dems, I remember,

That bunch of idiots that propped up, and kept in power, what has to have been the most unworthy, corrupt and misbegotten Government in the history of the UK.

In my mind they soiled the good name and noble aspirations of the Liberal Party.
