At last, McCain begins to seriously distance himself from Bush

James Forsyth 2:34pm

McCain should have done this months ago.

True, they are messages that will resonate with ordinary Americans and focus on the real issues concerning voters. Even at this late stage, they might just win it for him. But by allowing Palin to hitch her wagon to his campaign, it may now all be in vain...

As you say too little, too late and too cynical.

So why if it's all gone wrong in the last eight years did he vote with Bush 90% of the time?

All you Obama and hip hop fans, that's probably just me on this blog. Anyway great free mix from DJ Z Trip.

Some Old Skool mixed in with some great Obama speeches.

Go on James and Clive give it a go.

Remind me - who did McCain endorse and campaign for in 04?

@ THX1138

Thanks for the link - cool stuff, not sure how well it'll go down here though :-)

The Obama ad running against this one has a clip from McCain in the rotunda of Congress saying (roughly) "I voted over 90% of the time with Bush more than most in the Republican party"

@THX1138

Actually there's a classic drum n bass track by Jonny L - Let's Roll - which samples George Bush in macho mode which might be more popular with Spectator readers ....

Whatever the message, McCain increasingly comes across as an old man. Old and weary, and increasingly unlikely to rise to the challenge of the vigour required for these turbulent times.

DM, are you David Miliband?

You've been a bit quiet lately.

If the American people elect Obama and enter a phase of defensive isolation and economic contraction, the effects on world peace and stability will be catastrophic. The Americans will simultaneously, self-destruct the greatest experiment in capitalist democracy the world has ever seen, and impoverish themselves relative to several other major powers. It will be the end of American dominance in many areas. Who will dominate next, China or Russia? Will Iran dominate the Middle East Gulf States (instead of Saddam Hussein) and arm itself with nuclear weapons? YES! Vote Obama and vote and self-destruct! Still, the Roman Empire did the same thing... Vote McCain and survive, because then we in the UK will survive too. The war in Iraq was fought against evil men who threaten world peace-how is it journalists don't understand the difference between good and evil, between slavery or death with honour. Perhaps they thing life is some kind of game? Or that the Iranian fanatics will give them a job with good expenses? Saudi Arabia wants 4 times the fair price for the oil commodity whilst skimming of the top the billions needed for it and Iran to fund wahabi Osama Bin Ladin's war against Europe and the USA. How else could a ragbag army of nutters defeat the might of the West? This month the future of the world will be decided by the USA election. If Obama wins, talk will be cheap for decades, as no one will be listening...
