Fascinating information, but you have a small typo in your piece. Just as in Iain Dale's blog, you have identified Peter Mandelson as 'Newcomer of the Year', when I think you meant 'Smug politician least able to tell the truth or say sorry of the Year'

Dear All

To describe Peter Mandelson as newcomer of the year is far too much. The definition of newcomer certainly doesn't fit him.

That could have been titled "Return of Sacked New Labour Minister of this Year"!

As to resignation of the year, I would have preferred to see David Marshall, ex Labour MP get recognition mainly because he paid his wife and household, used as his office, £500,000 over 5 years.

I would also like to see those people who work in the shadows given credit too.

Unelected Spouse who makes money from the public purse, based on salary.

Ed Miliband as Minister to Watch, only if paint is not available!

I would also like to see Troublemaker of the Year, Frank Field for me.

Vince Cable deserved his win, top notch stuff and way out in front on Northern Rock.

Diane Abbott, another worthy winner and my one to watch, she has a finger on the pulse.

Finally, not everyone can win but special mention should go to Mr.A Darling as the most ineffective Chancellor in British History.

Yours sincerely

Another typo - You need to un-bold "Mayor: "

Dear Sir Buffy

Nothing for Obsbourne you ask.

He has already had drinkies on a £100 million pound yacht moored off Corfu.

If he is wanting something, perhaps, "Worse attempt at asking for a donation from a Russian Billionaire" could be rustled up.

Yours sincerely

Peter Mandelson as 'Newcomer of the Year'?

Can someone at The Spectator explain at what the voting criteria was for this category?

Surely one important factor is that the person is question needs to be a newcomer, no?

I think the Mandleson thing is a stroke of satirical genius, when all is said and done. Nothing like a bit of light-hearted humour.

You mean this is a real award lunch? I thought it was all a terrible pistake.

I'd invite all the big-headed lazy bastards to lunch and not turn up with the awards. None of them deserves anything, joke or not, until they do their jobs right.

Oh, and did I say bastards?

Why give the slimy little shit more publicity? It failed as a piss-take because he deflected it on to Osborne. I appreciate that Osborne is now in the doghouse and is probably moribund politically, anyway, but it was a sleazy stunt you pulled here which backfired. It dilutes the seriousness of Mandelsatan's wheeling and dealing with the oligarch, given his European role (which he should never have been allowed to achieve in the first place) and generally makes a mockery of real opposition to the Government. The iniquity of this serial sleaze ball once again having his delicate mitts on the levers of power, is serious, not grounds for a silly prank. It tells the public that you are all a bunch of Champagne swilling hypocrites in cahoots rather than in opposition, devising more and more ways of justifying a piss-up. "Stroke of satirical genius" my aspidistra!

Moreover, a very good "This Week" programme (a pleasant surprise, given its recent decline) was ruined in the final minute or two by featuring this piece of Magazine frippery. It was neither funny nor politically astute if, that is, you still profess to be a conservative magazine striving to expose the failings and corruption of this government. Bring back Dom Lawson.
