Why Nick Clegg will be next

I regard Nick Clegg as much of a certainty to replace Ming as Blair was to succeed John Smith in 1994. Some Coffee Housers have taken me to task for saying that this is bad for Cameron and good for Brown. What has Clegg ever done, they ask. Well not much, I admit, but from what I know of him I reckon he has the intellect and energy to do a great deal. He is the best hope of restoring the zing the LibDems need. Huhne is Alistair Darling without the eyebrows: cerebral but ineffective. He'll bomb.

They are paying the price for failing to make a decision on their direction at their last leadership election and choosing a caretaker istead.

November 24th, 2007 10:50pm Report this commentI cannot understand why the liberal democrats need a leader.They are never going to be either the government or the official opposition.They vote both ways on virtually every issue.The only thing they have been united about is that they wanted to keep Saddam Hussein in power.They could quite happily get by without a leader.
