Deserves to be preserved
Liz Anderson 5:10pm
It’s a real shame that Frank Gehry’s pavilion next to the Serpentine Gallery in Hyde Park has just been demolished. It was England’s first built project by this great Canadian-born architect and was a terrific addition to the park. During its three-month lifespan the huge wooden and glass structure was a place for live music and performances, as well as a place to wander through and admire. Perhaps the whole building could be rebuilt and sited elsewhere. Any suggestions?

November 14th, 2008 11:01pm Report this commentI was on the committee that gave it planning permission (have been for a few of the summer temporary pavilions). They are all granted only because they are temporary but they do wonderfully complement the tiny Serpentine Gallery building.
If I had to choose one recent one to keep it would be the Oscar Niemeyer though.

Why don't they do the same to the DOME? Is MAndelson's toy still around now that he's prancing around Europe?
