Why we need to look again at our abortion laws
James Forsyth 5:20pmAnyone who thinks that our abortion laws--or to be more precise, how they are interpreted—don’t need looking at should read this article from The Sunday Times. Here’s how it starts:“More than 50 babies with club feet were aborted in just one area of England in a three-year period, according to new statistics.
Thirty-seven babies with cleft lips or palates and 26 with extra or webbed fingers or toes were also aborted.”

October 22nd, 2007 11:00am Report this commentInteresting that most anti-abortionist comments are from men. No woman lightly chooses to have an abortion - it is usually a last resort and sometimes leaves deep scars. Ultimately, however, the decisions about such matters should remain with the women concerned. It is, after all, their bodies and if they choose to terminate/abort/kill (call it what you will) their embryos then so be it.
If one accepts the principle that the state has control over people's bodies (allowing or prohibiting abortion) - why should it stop there? One might as well criminalise masturbation - an act prohibited by most religions.

October 22nd, 2007 1:52pm Report this comment"No woman lightly chooses to have an abortion." That's a myth and, if you had really thought about it, you should know it. I have two very good women friends who described having an abortion as involving no consideration at all except for the annoyance of being too late for the morning-after pill. As for mostly male commentary. I don't think we can make a statistic about of a field of two but we can know that every opinion poll or4 vote on the abortion issue in the Western world has women voting against at a rate 50% higher than men. Abortion, like the pill, suits men: it allows them to abandon responsibility.
