November 27th, 2008 8:58pm Report this commentJust a nasty, passing thought. Would it be possible, say, for a cabinet minister responsible for, say, 'business', to be encouraging the police to arrest a shadow cabinet spokesman, say, for, say, leaking information on an issue that has made many voters feel that they would like to wring the government's collective neck?

This is pathetic. If there is anything that deserves leaking its this governments lies on immigration. And I think the rest of the country will see that as well.
Just typical of life in Browns Britain. Opposition MP does his job and he is arrested.
I await someone leaking the political playbook Brown has borrowed from Mugabi

November 27th, 2008 9:28pm Report this commentThis will rebound on Brown. Smacks of a Stalinist police state trying to silence the opposition - and cover up the bad news from Populus. And if it's such a crime to use leaked information why isn't the entire Labour government behind bars?

November 29th, 2008 4:18am Report this commentThis is the kind of thing we fought wars against. Are any of us safe from random arrest? A 19yr old mother in York was arrested after midnight by four police officers, taken from her home and held in a cell overnight for non-payment of a £45 fine for cycling on the pavement. Unbelievable but true.
Apart from anything else, why not do it in daylight? Do police get paid more for night raids? THIS is terrorism.
If anti-terrorism powers can be used to arrest elected Members of Parliament without charge (effectively rendering them incapable of performing their public duty) what does it say about this Government's attitude to democracy? If The Prime Minister and the Home Secretary did not know about this but the Mayor of London did, just exactly who is running this country? The police? If the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary DID know, they have been lying and should go. Is this the first time in history that a Shadow Cabinet member has been arrested for research? It is a disgrace and they must not get away with it yet again.People need to understand that this Government is not only incompetent, it is malign. And wasteful as ever. NINE highly trained police officers involved in this arrest: overkill. If Gordon Brown's shoddy Government is not booted into touch at the next election I am leaving the country.
