Jumping off a cliff?
Peter Hoskin 3:11pm
The Standard's Paul Waugh got there first, but it's still worth highlighting the comments of Peer Steinbrück, Germany's finance minister, in an interview with Der Spiegel. He echoes Angela Merkel's scepticism of Brown-style, debt-funded fiscal stimuli, but does so with a bit a rhetorical pizazz. A case in point:
"Just because all the lemmings have chosen the same path, it doesn't automatically make that path the right one."

We have EU arrest warrants now and his comments certainly look like they could be prosecuted under the catch all "Misconduct in public office" legislation.

Did anyone seriously think that Brown’s ham fisted attempt to kick start the economy would work?
It never crossed my mind; Brown is incapable of helping anyone unless he is taking more back in return.
Some help!
He simply can’t think about a solution to anything unless a pound sign is somewhere in the equation.
Having back stabbed his way into a PM Job; he has found out he is unable to cope.
So we are to fed a running commentary by Labour friendly papers that there is a Brown Bounce happening.
Luckily for us all, it’s nearly pantomime season and so, “oh no its not!” can be sprinkled liberally about.
The German Minister is speaking out quite rightly about this donkey’s approach as the road to disaster, it is.
The solution to debt is more debt?
What about stop digging if you want to climb out of the hole?
So, what is the Brown plan?
In a nutshell it is hope, hope that others will spring into life and save his bacon.
As to plan B!
There is no plan B because A Darling, the night-watchman down at the Treasury has said, he will have to tinker with the plan A.
I previously said that Germany and Berlin in particular are worth a look at, my position hasn’t changed, there is money in them there German hills.
Finally as to the headline, “jumping off a cliff”, very apt but this could cause some people health problems as they struggle up the hill to be first with an anvil for Brown’s neck.
Some people still believe that a job should be done right and done once, not Labour’s version of to be continued.
Yours sincerely

How do you know when Gordon Brown is lying? When his lips are moving.
