Capital Gains Tax Update

3:27pm

Miles Templeman is just out of a meeting with Ministers Hutton and Timms (Business & Enterprise and Competitiveness Ministers respectively) and tells me that there are 'warm noises' coming from the Treasury over Capital Gains Tax, which is due to be hiked up by 80% next year. No definite plans to report as yet but it's encouraging to hear from the horse's mouth that the Treasury is taking business' concerns on board . Apparently the idea that small businessmen who sell up and retire could get up to £100,000 tax free is one that is being particularly well received at Number 11.
