Brown should heed The Godfather's advice

James Forsyth 1:39pm

In The Observer’s feature on what will happen in 2009, Andrew Rawnselys says this about an early election:

“The case for an earlier election is that things will get worse for Labour. I don't see [Gordon Brown] wanting to believe that. Such is his contempt for his Tory opponent, he will reckon that waiting will make sure that David Cameron is "found out" by the voters. In common with most leaders, the prime minister will also think that the people will grow to love him the longer they have to get to know him.”
This puts one in mind of that famous quote from Michael Corleone: “Never hate your enemies. It clouds your judgement.”

One of Brown’s greatest weaknesses is that he is too obsessed with dishing the Tories—that, after all, was the cause of the whole 10p tax debacle. As the pre-election jousting becomes more intense, this weakness could come to be Brown’s undoing.

Does he understand that he trashed the UK economy? I think he is mentally unstable. As in, I think he has a mental medical condition.

It's revealing that Rawnsley thinks Brown will hang on till as late as possible in 2010, purely for longevity's sake. Just to see how long he can cling to power, so he looks a little more respectable in the history books.

I'm inclined to agree. But what God-awful state will this country be in by then? Not that Brown will care. The only thing he's ever cared about is scheming, conniving and plotting to advance himself in the political pecking order. Not even a direct hit from a bunker-buster would blast him out of No 10. He's too well dug in.

Mr Forsyth.

Mr Brown's failings could fill a page. But please explain when he has 'dished' the tories?

Every budget, as Chancellor, had to be examined very carefully for the 'hidden taxes'

I cannot recall, as Prime Minister, he actually dishing the Tories with truth! The lies proved to be so, the deceptions also. Sadly the man is a bully, a coward with no personality whatsoever.

I do hope, for the sake of our Country that he goes for an early election. He will then find out just how much the people 'love' him

Brown's ( and New Liebore's problem) is that they just want power and don't care what they have to do to get it and keep it.Unfortunately, this completely clouds their judgement, not only about what is good for the country, but also about any qualities their hated opponents may have.

Brown's mentality reminds one of the words of Cyrano de Bergerac: "Perish the Universe,
Provided I have my revenge!"

But James I do love him. I do love him greatly. He is the star that illuminates my evening sky, that radiates its aura through the ether and touches my soul.

Nah, Andie's a good lad who's a deep insider to New Labour but the PM is so psychologically unhinged that he can't distinguish between strategy and tactics - if he ever knew. The sooner the better but we all know it ain't gonna happen.

Brown knows he could not get the job any other way than how he did. So like Callaghan who got there the same way he will stay until the last possible minute

The release of the New Year Message theme reveals that Browns determination to be noticed by President Elect Obama is almost childlike in its intensity."Look at me, we are so alike",is the message he and his spin doctors transmit hoping to appeal.
Browns "new alliance with Obama" is the meal ticket Charlie Whelan anticipated when he foresaw the PMs "wall-to-wall coverage" during President Obamas May 09 visit.
Lets hope the President is well advised about our patriotic PMs motives before reaching the UK.
At least the welcome he will get from the British people will be genuine.

Verity:- “Does he understand that he trashed the UK economy? I think he is mentally unstable. As in, I think he has a mental medical condition.”
No Verity I don’t think he does not understand, nor does he believe that he has trashed the UK economy; rather, he believes that he is the only one, not only who can save the UK, but the world as well.
I have always believed the man to be totally delusional and have stated so before, so yes, I would agree with you in thinking the man ‘has a mental medical condition’.
Personally, I would like to see a vote of no confidence in him and his rotten government, but that won’t happen.
If he and his cretinous sidekicks carry on until 2010 then who knows what condition this country will be in; they will probably have to bring back soup kitchens and workhouses!

Verity is entirely right. The view that Brown is abnormal should dominate the political agenda in 2009. Whatever's wrong with the man, and it doesnt' exactly matter what it is, is enough to disqualify him from the job of leading the government. Brown has personalised politics to an extent unmatched in even the most egotistical of his predecessors. He's unhinged.

Strapworld - I think the author meant "disses" - disrespects - dismissive - rather than "dishes" - gossips about etc. What Brown often does is twist facts to criticise any one who opposes him or his policies

Come 2010, Brown will call for a government of national unity and cancel the election.

Kit, I would not argue with you. But could he legally do this?

Couldn't HM just announce that she is calling a general election? What could Brown do? Our military answers to HM.

Seb says '' Gordon Broons nuts.''

Thats not nice to talk about the son of God like that and truly Broon IS the son of God.
