The cost of selling the EU

Peter Hoskin 2:12pm

While we're discussing Rand (here and here) and the dangers of bureaucratisation and centralisation, it's worth pointing out this astonishing fact from Open Europe's latest bulletin:

"Open Europe has published new research which shows that the EU is spending billions of euros a year on initiatives to promote itself and its central aim of 'ever closer union'.  In 2008 alone, it spent more than 2.4 billion euros, which is more than Coca Cola's global advertising budget."
The accompanying report can be read here.

The best thing anybody government could do, and they would have no problem justifying the action, is to withhold al EU contributitions until the books are approved by the auditors..many years since the books have been approved..any company would have been struck off by now.
Even Europhiles would stuggle to argue with that.

The way it is done includes subsidising chairs in European law, European studies etc. Then the academic experts know what to say.

All governments - and the EU is a parastatal body - have huge advertising budgets. I think the British government spends more than Ford and Unilever combined.

I have never seen any adverts promoting the EU so where does all this money go ? How has it been spent ? I think we should be told. We won`t be of course.

government (local or national) spending our money (there is no other type remember) is completely bizarre - WTF? Shouldn't the benefit be bloody obvious?

VJ has a good point that could get traction if mentioned often enough. VJ, I assume UKIP reads this site, but just in case they don't, why don't you jot them down a note? Your thought has the simplicity to be understood instantly, with no heavy thinking, and to stay in the mind.
