Damming with faith praise
James Forsyth 11:44am“If you compare him with an average Russian bureaucrat you're laughing."
A hilarious--—perhaps unintentionally so—assessment of Gordon Brown from Alexander Lebdev, who is reportedly the new owner of the Evening Standard.

January 15th, 2009 1:41pm Report this commentAre you sure ? - "I think people are discovered in circumstances. I think for the crisis period he (Brown) has been a good manager... He's hardworking and he's got values" - this sounds rather flattering to me ... and there's no suggestion he's being sarcastic.
Oh, by the way, do you still need consent under the Industry Act (or its successor "consumer-friendly" statute) to take a majority shareholding in a newspaper ?
(And don't you mean "damning" in the heading - sorry , James).

Wish he wasn't so hard working - he might not inflict so many bad ideas on us then. And Hitler and Stalin had "values".
The man is a freak.

January 15th, 2009 5:39pm Report this commentOld Boris Brown does look like a Russian bureaucrat come to think of it...the solid, square slavic features...the dour demeanour...
...and certainly with his belief in unreconstructed socialism you could expect to find him standing next to Breshnev in the Kremlin overlooking one of those endless November parades.
Perhaps the Tories should have him on a poster in a Shapka!
