A 20-point lead for the Tories
Peter Hoskin 12:00pmHere at the headline numbers from the latest Ipsos-MORI poll:
Conservatives --- 48 percent (up 4 percentage points)
Labour --- 28 percent (down 2)
Lib Dems --- 17 percent (no change)
Aside from the hefty Tory lead, the unchanged Lib Dem position is worth noting - especially in view of the astonishing gains they've been making in other recent polls. I haven't seen any below-headline findings yet, but will report back if there's anything interesting.
P.S. The last time the Tories had a 20-point lead (or above) was back in September.

P.S. as an aside what happened to the results of 'Brown apology' competition launched last week?

February 17th, 2009 12:56pm Report this commentThis is not a particularly big Tory lead in the present circumstances. Things are likely to get worse for Labour in the run up to the election. People are beginning to see that Gordon Brown's grotesque wasting of public money during ten years as Chancellor has placed our country in a very bad position to deal with the recession. Of course the recession is worldwide, but the one politician who has done by far the most to make everything worse for us is now sitting in Number 10.

February 17th, 2009 1:57pm Report this commentPeter, two things I note from the tables and commentary: first, people who favour the Conservatives are massively more likely to vote - before taking into account this likelihood the Conservatives are ahead only by 39 to 31; secondly, there has been a collapse in satisfaction in the Government from Labour supporters - 56% to 45% in one month.

Clegg offers him this hope, along with thousands of others similarly placed: to 'reinvent himself as a stay-at-home father.'
Happy Ending then in Bonny Fifeshire.

February 17th, 2009 4:24pm Report this commentAlex. I agree why on earth do 28% of those poled, vote labour. They must be totally separated from reality,or perhaps they cannot read.

February 17th, 2009 6:50pm Report this commentExcellent piece by Kavanagh in the Super Soaraway sun about how Brown's tits are completely false, and that 2 years ago he wasn't even an A cup, now he's been exposed as the biggest tit in the world, and it's all fake.
Actually that's not what he said, he was talking abot how Brown is personally responsibel for the failures of banking regulation and how it's costing pensioners trillions.
The Sun laying into the government is a vital turning point.
