Should win? You mean in your opinion it should win.

Should be: King Maximillian IV. Actually is: Max Kaye

Slum Dog is the flavour of the month movie and everyone will feel they get the high moral ground voting for it. Bad film but there you go. I`m not entirely confident about Kate Winslet but so long as we don`t get the Weepie 'thank you children for being with Mummy on this journey' sick-bag speech I don`t really care.

Cruz and Jolie? Really?!

Changeling was a film almost entirely about hats, and I never knew that shouting in Spanish in boring, tired and range-tinted films was good acting.

I'm not sure I agree with Peter Hoskin's alternative winners but he does make an important point. Invariably the film that scoops the most gongs isn't always that good (remember Titanic) but is the film with the widest appeal. The trend has got worse in the past twenty years with studios afraid to take risks and also relying on screen testing (and then changing) their films.

i have a feeling slumdog will win nothing. Unfortunately we Brits have an inflated sense of our own relevance when it comes to these things

I think he writes Harriet Harman's speeches.

'The Reader' has been subject to a ridiculous campaign that it's a 'soft on Nazis' movie, so that makes Kate Winslet's job a bit too hard.

IN any event, Meryl Streep in 'Doubt' is on stronger form.

I haven't seen 'Slumdog' or 'The Changeling' but reviews suggest they are too flawed to match 'Doubt' and, in a rational world, 'The Reader'.

You list your should win Best Picture as Frost/Nixon and your should win Best Director as Gus Van Sant for Milk. So presumably Frost/Nixon directed itself?

I just saw The Wrestler last night

Micky Rouke was superb. He deserves to win the oscar.

If there's anyone out there who hasn't seen The Wrestler. See it - you'll love it.

You're right Alex. I saw The Wrestler last week with my daughter and we both agreed it was a cracker. You could almost smell the linament and taste the blood in your mouth. Rourke was outstanding and deserves an Oscar. Go see it you doubters.

Kate Winslett should win something for her role in the film version of Thomas Hardy's novel "Jude" ;)
