The failings of the MCB

James Forsyth 4:29pm

The interview that the head of the Muslim Council of Britain has given to The Daily Telegraph today is phenomenally unhelpful to the cause of community cohesion. Muhammad Abdul Bari throwing around analogies to Germany in the 1930s is only going to polarise the debate.

Careful James, else Commissar Blair will be arranging for you to be visited by his Minority Communities Special Support Action Group heavy mob with truncheons drawn. Bet Nigel Hastilow is smiling though.

It is no accident that where you find a high level of creative output (the West) you also find a high-level of introspection and self-criticism. How else do people improve? Where you find a LOW level of creative output (most Muslim countries) you also find a refusal to acknowledge any fault or blame with themselves - everything is always the other guy's fault, so no need to improve oneself.

If you think Bari doesn't *intend* to polarise the debate, you should have a word with MElaniue Philliips of this neighbourhood.
