Tories on 43% in new poll
James Forsyth 11:00am
The Tories will be encouraged by the latest ICM poll which puts them at 43%, up 3 on the last one. Labour are steady at 35% with the Lib Dems on 15%, a drop of 3 points. The poll indicates that the Tories would likely have a small overall majority and is the highest level of support for them in an ICM poll since 1992.
Gordon Brown’s challenge is to find a way of wrestling the momentum back from David Cameron. This poll suggests that the Queen’s speech failed to do that.

November 11th, 2007 1:28pm Report this commentFor the life of me I cannot understand how Labour can be on 35%. They are so consistently incompetent and useless that only mentally defective people will consider voting for them. Likewise where are the BNP in this and other polls? Surely their take has to be around the 30% to 40% mark. I cannot believe otherwise based on the circle of people I talk to.

November 11th, 2007 5:32pm Report this commentMichael Sullivan is right. There is a hidden "nationalist" vote out there. Not all of it is BNP - thre is a strong, democratic, "Justice for England" movement out there, represented by small parties like the English Democrats. This "hidden vote" is the key to understanding the public mood. It is no coincidence that whenever the Tories embrace "nationalist" issues, such as immigration, or the under-representation of England resulting from devolution, their popularity immediately rises.

November 14th, 2007 9:01pm Report this commentWhat a ineptitude! A collapse of the criminal justice system. Savings lower than at any point in 25 years. Stealth taxes instead of honest direct taxation. Little growth in the stockmarket in 8 years. Debt at record levels. Armed Forces under-funded. Hospitals in a parlous state of cleanliness. Survival after serious illnesses among the lowest rates in the developed world. Thousands of newly-trained Doctors unable to obtain a first post while Doctors are taken from third world. 25% of children unable to read at the age of 11. Grade inflation giving an illusion of academic improvement. Unchecked immigration but without the infrastructure to accommodate 5 million extra people. Direct lies published in Labour manifesto to avoid a referendum on the European Constitution. Big Government now a new elite. Civil liberties eroded with innocent people obliged to provide DNA samples and carry ID cards. In short, we are witnessing a collapse of civilisation brought about by the Labour Party.
