Another of Brown's attacks undermined?
Peter Hoskin 5:19pm
We've already mentioned how Mervyn King's recent comments undermine Brown's central "doing everything it takes" vs "do nothing" distinction. But a document that the Tories have just put out highlights how another of the PM's central attacks is now in tatters.
Its theme is how Brown has "taken" the Tories' "advice", now that he seems to have backed down on another fiscal stimulus. This line cuts right through the "no time for a novice" jibe, and subverts the teacher and pupil relationship that Brown has tried to cultivate in PMQs recently (cf, from a couple of weeks ago, his "Unprecedented means without precedent; global means across the world..." monologue).
Brown's strategies, big and small, really do seem to have been shot to pieces this week. The Tories need to capitalise on the disarray, as this latest document suggests they might.

I really am concerned about the number of times he has failed to capitalise on situations. the latest being the exceptional speech by Mr Hannan!
How many open goals will this man miss? Does he want to win the Gneral Election? Frankly, is he up to the job?
He is just a Blair copy in a blue suit!

Apart from wanting to vomit at the sight of its opening page - it beggars belief that drake can talk his rubbish when the very thread highlights the Tory claim that Brown is following Tory policy.
This week - where was Brown? Not at PMQs.
Hannans speech was not exceptional - but it was a good laugh. But of course there could be no direct Conservative response as we are currently in the EPP - and its Cameron who is taking us out of this grouping - so thanks to Cameron there is more chance of this in the future.

March 26th, 2009 7:55pm Report this commentAs Paul Waugh points out in his blog the Chancellor pointedly refused to unequivocally back the governor in Parliament
Osborne replied
"A dire situation for the Government just got worse. When a Chancellor pointedly refuses in Parliament to express confidence in the Governor of the Bank of England, or agree with the statements he makes on the Budget, then we have reached a crisis of confidence in the Government’s economic policy and its ability to lead us into a recovery."
I doubt the thick backwoodsmen will have bothered to search out Osborne's attack (its easy and trolls like Luke will just stick his head in the sand.

March 26th, 2009 7:59pm Report this commentAs long as the Conservatives fail to support their leader, they will never come to power. Frankly I'm disgusted with all the anti-Cameron comments on this site. It reminds me of the summer of 2007 when many Conservatives were rather dazzled by clunking Brown and inclined to underestimate Cameron until THAT conference speech and THAT bottled election, when Cameron performed brilliantly at PMQs. Sadly many of you seem to have very short memories. David Cameron is a gift to the Conservative party. Unfortunately he's a gift who is being undermined by foolish attacks from party supporters, just when, as the latest YouGov poll shows, Cameron's popularity in the country as a whole is rising. I strongly suspect many Conservatives don't really want power. They just want to be backseat drivers, nursing their own ideological purity.
