Brown's gang ruins things for decent Labour supporters
Peter Hoskin 7:19pmHis post on the Damian McBride scandal appeared earlier, but it's worth rounding off the afternoon with the words of Tom Harris, a Labour MP who has done himself credit today:
"...this isn’t about positioning or spinning or misdirection or whatever. This is about standards of political activity, standards which have fallen far, far below what is remotely acceptable, especially for someone working at the very heart of government.
We screwed up, big time. We have no-one — absolutely no-one at all — to blame for this but ourselves. The damage the Labour Party and the government have sustained this last 24 hours has been entirely self-inflicted.
And the people behind this sordid little mess owe everyone named in these emails a very public apology."
It recalls a comment by a Labour supporter that I read yesterday - possibly on the infamous LabourList - lamenting how the destructive efforts of Mcbride, Draper et al are undermining the doostep work put in by decent Labour folk. They must be dismayed by what has been done in the name of their party.

April 12th, 2009 7:53pm Report this commentThe whole thing is systematic of the Brown era in the Labour Party and why he is driving the Labour Party to destruction. If it wasn't for the mess he is creating in this beloved land I for one would say carry on and destroy the party which has never done any good and much harm. As it is I want him to go now while we still can save the nation, which alas means the Labour Party will be saved too. Suppose one can't have everything in life.

Isn't that an oxymoron?

So you 'knew' someone would say that did you?
What does that say about a Labour supporters view of their own party then.
Perhaps you should reconsider.
And perhaps you would also like to comment on Speaker Martins latest junket at tax payers expense whilst you're at it.
I believe he's also a 'decent Labour Supporter' - my point stands I think you'll find.

April 12th, 2009 8:57pm Report this commentSilent Hunter: my comment was only a bit of friendly fun, although I do think it's wrong to suggest that there are no decent Labour supporters. To my mind, Frank Field - among others - disproves that argument.
And as for me giving a take on Speaker Martin, er, I have - check out the post below this one.

April 12th, 2009 10:54pm Report this commentThere may be decent Labour supporters (although I think you mean MP's rather than "supporters", e.g, Frank Field) but judging by what Brown & Co appear to get away with there are no courageous ones.
The list of abuses attributable to this government is a very long one indeed but you can count the number of Labour MP's who have demonstrated any integrity by open rebellion on the fingers of one hand. When is a man or woman of destiny going to step outside the bunker and tell the British people what they deserve to hear?

There are many decent Labour Party supporters.
R you are absolutely right; unfortunately for them the labour party that they support does not now exist.
It has not existed for quite some time; you see it was and is a party that would be completely un-electable.
The Princesses; Blair, Brown and Mandelson recognised this fact, hence the birth of New Labour. (a pretend political party) It only ever had one purpose and that was to launch the Princesses into power, old labour were so desperate for power and the perks that went with it that they went along with this horrible pretence.
So Blair, Brown and co; who have damaged everything that they have come into contact with have ironically damaged labour beyond repair.
