BREAKING: Tom Watson to make a "personal statement"
Fraser Nelson 5:16pmI hear Tom Watson is about to make a "personal statement" which should clear up how much he knew about Red Rag and Damiangate. Last time I looked, Guido didn't have any crosshairs trained on him - but we'll see.
UPDATE: He isn't going to resign, I'm told. But expect a statement tonight.

April 14th, 2009 5:34pm Report this commentDear Fraser
It is either 'I knew nothing' or resignation.
If it is I knew nothing, I think we can assume this is an attempt at damage limitation.
Which is a mistake.
If it is resignation then it may suggest that there is a paper trail which New Labour needs to close down fast.
Given he was copied in on an email; I think resignation is the best bet.
Brown and Labour Party need to kill this story fast.
Yours sincerely

April 14th, 2009 5:59pm Report this commentThis is truly disgusting. I am not a part of the British elite, but a working class lass. I've seen cleaner looking shit in the gutter than those lot in Parliament. They make me sick. The British truly are disgusting. The sooner the Union is finsihed of, the better.

April 14th, 2009 6:15pm Report this commentHelen - not sure finishing off the Union is the answer - I am a unionist myself (English born, home in Scotland).
We have done great things together and the current vogue to beat each other up I find really depressing.
The blame for this lies in inept and inadequate politicians of a blueish/pinkish hue over the last 25 years following a statist/Euro centric mission.
IMHO !

April 14th, 2009 6:16pm Report this commentThe concept of resignation is quite alien to a member of this Government. They regard the very idea with horror and outrage, as if someone had made a thoroughly disgusting and morally reprehensible suggestion.
What, *resign*? One of us, the chosen and sanctified few? How very dare you!

April 14th, 2009 6:36pm Report this commentYou know I wonder if Brown will ever call an election. I suspect he will use the economy as a reason to install a government of national unity (you may laugh) or some such. I just can't see him getting involved in an election and all of this is symptomatic. Far fetched? It is very dangerous to think that the old normalities somehow operate immanently.

April 15th, 2009 1:12pm Report this commentThere is something rather fishy about a Government minister agreeing with every recommendation that a large, well-known charity is asking the Government to act on in its campaign report, and something even fishier that this report is being given high billing in the said Government minister's blog. Welcome to the cosy world of Antonia Bance of Oxfam and Tom Watson of the Cabinet Office. If you read carefully the congratulatory messages Bance and Watson send each on their blogs, you will no doubt notice that these 2 valiant souls are fighting not just the Tories, but their more immediate enemies: the Blairites. Tom Watson has his podgy finger in every pie....he has a vast network whom he uses for his murky business
