November 15th, 2007 5:10pmThe Speccie has had problems in recent years with its Parliamentarian of the year award. Tony Blair won it when his attendance rate was very poor, and now we have an arch opportunist picking up the award. Pity Cameron didn't win, having led the Tories to 43% in the polls after holding his nerve during the dog days of the summer, and for regularly showing up Brown as the unexpectedly limited PM that he is. Other awards fine, except Michael Gove should have beaten Nick Clegg. (OK, I'm a Tory supporter, but the Party has come a long way recently).

November 16th, 2007 7:04amNick Clegg? Newcomer of the year? Who got together and when to decide that he would be the meejah's candidate for leadership of the LibDems? I've seen nothing but favourable references to him across many newspapers, but I haven't heard anything like that unanimity among LibDem or non-LibDem voters.

November 17th, 2007 6:19pmI strongly believe that the Politician of the year award should of been awarded jointly to Martin Mc Guinness and Ian Paisley. No other Politician has made a braver decision in UK Politics this year. Two men who have been on opposite sides of the politicial spectrum for over thirty years; to make a decision that i am shure still hurts both men and their supporters but gives the people of Northern Ireland a peacefull and better future deserves recognition.
