I don't think it takes anything away from Colonel Kilcullen's undoubted talents to suggest that this statement is, at the very least, open to debate.

Maybe we should realise that we are not more clever than the locals. There is some hidden colonial agenda, that is bad, and some ignorance how POOR those villagers really are. Selling children, thats their reality, and nobody will change this.
