What to do about Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq

James Forsyth 6:55pm

This video of David Kilcullen, the author of this week’s cover story and the world’s greatest expert on counter-insurgency, in conversation with George Packer about Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq is well worth watching

"...the world’s greatest expert on counter-insurgency..."

I don't think it takes anything away from Colonel Kilcullen's undoubted talents to suggest that this statement is, at the very least, open to debate.

And Iran... we're going to end up with a middle-eastern war. After blowing all our cash on that, we'll be vulnerable to China and Russia. We need to unite against Islam.

We should have milked the tits of Africa for oil not Iraq.

Well, the biggest question is why and the biggest experience is that you cant buy politics. Maybe we should realise that we are not more clever than the locals. There is some hidden colonial agenda, that is bad, and some ignorance how POOR those villagers really are. Selling children, thats their reality, and nobody will change this.

Leave well alone and support British freedom at home.

If we leave them alone they will leave us alone. It really is that simple.

These places arent worth the fingernail of a single British soldier.

Liberal interventionism isnt conservatism.

Congratulations George Packer! When it comes to verbose questions not even Naughtie can hold up a candle to you.
