RUMOUR: David Miliband to resign Friday

James Forsyth 10:28pm

Update: Nick Robinson on the BBC saying Miliband won't go.

Update 2: This Week is saying that Miliband and Hutton have said they disagree with Purnell's decision.

The word on the street which I haven't confirmed is that David Miliband will go tomorrow.

He'll have to time it very well amidst the hoped for ongoing debacle of the election results or no-one will notice.

Hope he's got the banana ready for the photoshoot.

What a coward. Too frit to do the deed next year; and sheltering behind others this time.

Prime Minister material.... not in a month of Sundays.

The next Labour Prime Minister may not be born yet.

He's resigning to mount a leadership campaign. There's a man who'll make Cameron look like the statesman with gravitas.

Exciting night for you chaps up at the Speccie!

"...David Miliband will go tomorrow."

Do you mean to say that he'll fall on his banana?

Imagine all the Blairites doing a David Davis style career kamikaze. I'd love for Brown to get away with this. All the Blairites nuked in one weekend. Let's hope everybody voted Labour today.

Miliband wont quit. He'll do what Portillo did in 95 (he talked about it on this week last night) and bottle it - hoping someone else will take Brown down and he can just glide into the job without the stench of blood on his hands. Total coward if you ask me - and it wont work.

Happy to be wrong on this one though!
